村田円芸（えんげい）は、「円・芸・杜」という三つの柱をもとに、自然と共にある暮らしの美しさを、手仕事を通して形にしています。木や土、風や水、光や音、いのちの源たちと響き合いながら、風土や暮らしに、静かに息づく場や庭を生み出していきます。
「円」とは、循環と調和のかたち。円は自然の理。いのちや季節がめぐる循環であり、自然と人がつながる和であり、目には見えないものまで包みこむ森羅万象の象徴です。水や空気の流れ、火のゆらぎ、波の脈動、渦のスピンエネルギー、蛇行曲線、光の陰影、チャクラの円環、全てが自然の動きの中にひそんでいます。それはまた、心の内側で広がる平和や調和、静けさ、愛や喜びのかたちです。私たちはこの「円」を、森羅万象とつながる感覚として大切にし、場を通して人の暮らしと自然の呼吸をもう一度やわらかく結び直します。
「芸」とは、暮らしと風土に根ざした用と美が調和する生きた技。芸は、誰かのための手仕事、日々の暮らしのために、自然と向き合い、手と心で生み出す行為です。それは、生きるための造形。使われ、朽ち、また土に還っていくような、いのちと共にある「生きた芸術」であり、暮らしと自然に根ざし、用と美が調和する“生きたわざです。
「杜」とは、いのちが集い、息づく場所。私たちは「杜」という和語も大切に捉えています。木と土は、いのちを育む豊かな自然の場であり、木と土は母と子の関係である。私たちは、この母と子の関係性に、原風景と深い真理を感じています。このつながりを見つめなおし、日本の未来がもっと美しく、豊かに、やさしくなるように、ひとつひとつを足元から丁寧に活動し続けていきます。

Murata Engei gives form to the beauty of living in harmony with nature, guided by three core principles: En (Circle), Gei (Art), and Mori (Sacred Grove). Through her handcrafted work, she creates spaces and gardens that gently breathe with the rhythms of the land, drawing inspiration from the elements—wood and soil, wind and water, light and sound, and the deep pulse of life itself.
“En” symbolizes the cycles and harmony found in nature. It is the shape of life’s flow—of seasons turning, of connections between people and the natural world, of the unseen forces that move through all things. The flow of water and air, the flicker of fire, the curves of waves and spirals, the play of shadow and light, the circular energy of the chakras—each is part of nature’s quiet motion. “En” also reflects the peace, stillness, and love that arise within the human heart. Murata values this sense of connection with all living things, and through the places she creates, she seeks to gently weave together human life with the breath of nature once again.
“Gei” is a living art that unites function and beauty, rooted in everyday life and local culture. It is the act of creating with one’s hands and heart, in response to nature and in service of daily living. These works are not merely objects—they are part of life’s cycle: used, weathered, and eventually returned to the earth. This is what she calls “living art”—a form that lives alongside life itself, in harmony with nature and purpose. “Mori” is a sacred space where life gathers and breathes. The word evokes a place where trees and soil nurture life. Murata sees in their relationship—like that of mother and child—a deep truth and a memory of our original landscape. By honoring this bond and working with care from the ground up, she hopes to help shape a future for Japan that is more beautiful, more abundant, and more gentle.

庭づくりのプロセス 呼吸する大地、母と子の関係を取り戻す庭づくり。私たちは、設計の前に巡りを観る事、聴く事や感じる事を大切にしています。場がいのちを持つために、自然と共鳴する設計を行っています。私たちが大切にしているのは、そこに流れる氣のめぐり、空気と水・光と風の脈、人の気配です。人が自然の子であることを忘れないように、風の流れ・水の巡り・土の呼吸・音の響き・光の陰 影・自然の匂い・場に宿る気配や、記憶に耳を澄ませながら、自然の声を聴き寄り添うように、空間のあり方を探っていきます。
また杜の視点から、大地と人との関係を結び直す空間づくりを行います。目に見えるものを整えることだけでなく、見えないものと調和することからはじまります。硬く締め固められた土をほぐし、呼吸を取り戻す。土中に水脈を通し、生命の循環を再び流す。石や木を、自然の理に沿って配する。すべては足元にあり、目の前に現れている。その小さなサインを丁寧に見つめ、人と自然の関係を取り戻すことが私たちの仕事です。

The Garden / Making Process Creating gardens that breathe with the earth—restoring the bond between mother and child. Before any design begins, we cherish observing, listening, and sensing the flow of nature. To bring life into a place, we design in resonance with it. What we value are subtle currents—the circulation of ki (life energy), the pulse of air, water, light, wind, and the quiet presence of people. So we don’t forget that humans are children of nature, we tune in to the flow of wind, the movement of water, the breath of soil, the echo of sound, the dance of light and shadow, the scent of earth, and the presence within a place. By listening to nature’s voice, we shape spaces that align with it.
From the perspective of mori (sacred grove), we help rebuild the relationship between land and people. This begins not just with arranging the visible, but with harmonizing the unseen. We loosen hardened soil so it can breathe. We open underground water paths to restore life’s flow. We place stones and trees in tune with nature’s order. Everything we need is already at our feet, already before our eyes. By noticing these quiet signs, our work is to help restore the connection between people and the natural world.
